A Runner's Haiku

An American runner on the streets and trails of Japan

an incense stick glows
remembering one cherished
spring obligation

A single tree perched
arching into the river
a summer morning

Under cloudy sky
A man fishing the river
In his father’s boots

Raking in the dark
Perhaps there is no better time
To remove the leaves

Running at sunset
Old men sit on park benches
Watching the day end
